Bah Humbug!
Nov. 27th, 2004 01:37 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I hate the Christmas Season.
Note that I do not hate Christmas. Christmas is great. Peace, love, joy, family, giving and getting presents, not to mention a certain religious birthday party.
It's the Christmas Season that makes me want to scream and strangle people. Why? Two words: Christmas Music.
I have never worked retail, so I suppose I can never fully comprehend the horror that is Christmas Music, but I still despise it. And for some reason, as soon as Thanksgiving is over (and I hope the Americans reading this had a good Thanksgiving), at least two of my pre-set radio stations feel the need to play nothing but Christmas Music 24 hours a day until Dec. 25th.
I have heard "Little Drummer Boy" six times already. I want to destroy things.
I have another reason for disliking Christmas Music as well. Take a look at my username. One of those words is part of my actual name. Now, guess why I hate the Christmas Season.
On a side note, here is your one chance to make fun of my name. If you mock my name in any other post between now and Christmas, I will yell viciously at you in giant CAPS OF RAGE.
Seriously, I hate the Christmas Season.

We wish you a merry...nah, too easy ;)
Date: 2004-11-27 07:14 pm (UTC)Noel? That's a pretty name. Be glad you aren't named 'Christmas' (a la Christmas Jones from that crap James Bond movie with Denise Richards.) Or Wenceslas...hey, just trying to help! =D Suddenly I feel lucky to have an ordinary name like Megan.
Personally, I hate stores around Christmastime even more than I hate Christmas music. The crowds, the screaming children...now THAT puts me in a homicidal mood. Better to stay home and order all my stuff from Amazon.com or Ebay.

Date: 2004-11-27 10:20 pm (UTC)Amazon.com is a saving grace in the holiday season. But I'll still probably end up at the mall at least once.

Date: 2004-11-27 10:22 pm (UTC)I have to tell you though. It's only a pretty name if someone else has it. It's also cute on little children.
Also, people nickname you Nelly, which is disturbing and wrong.

Date: 2004-11-27 07:52 pm (UTC)Dude, here it started playing the Christmas music on the radio at the beginning of November. I was looking at the radio going WTF? It's NOVEMBER. If they started playing it a week or two before christmas, I could deal with it, but no, they insist upon playing it before freaking thanksgiving. WHAT'S UP WITH THAT?
Just out of curiosity, where DID you get your name? The Edvadne part, anyway.

Date: 2004-11-27 10:25 pm (UTC)Evadne is a family name from the little known Greek branch of my family. Great-great grandmother I do believe. You would never guess I had Greek in me if you saw me though. I'm as white as white can be. I chose it because I always thought it was a pretty name, but not something I would name a child (I know what it's like to have a weird name in elementary school). So I used it on-line.

Date: 2004-11-27 08:26 pm (UTC)Chrismas music began at least mid last week and just recently we have the "Dicken's Carolers" walking up and down the lobby singing all sorts of songs for the guests. At least they sing different songs in each set or else I would go nuts. I mean, I like Christmas music to a certain extent and then it is just too much for me.
Ugh.

Date: 2004-11-27 10:27 pm (UTC)I hope the carolers don't drive you absolutely batty. Request little known songs if it gets to be too much, and revel in their confusion.

Breathes a life of gathering gloom;
Sorrowing, sighing, bleeding, dying,
Sealed in the stone cold tomb.
For some reason everyone stopped smiling.....
Of course, I went Christmas Caroling on Halloween just to freak people out, so I really can't talk about being irritating. Anyway, good luck. I stopped listening to the radio. Best decision I made all year.

Date: 2004-11-28 12:57 am (UTC)I'm Christmas music is making your working life more difficult. Do they play "modern" Christmas music? To my ears, those modern carols are worse than the old standards sung by people like Johnny Mathias and such. Blah, stop making up stupid Christmas songs, you new-fangled pop idols!
Hey, I'll totally trade names with you. If it's legal.

Date: 2004-11-28 01:00 am (UTC)That is all I will say. I wouldn't have said that, but I like bad jokes, and that's one of my favorites.
There's a webcomic artist/author/whatever that I like. I was reading her blog archives, and I think you might appreicate her November 13, 2003 (http://www.sgvy.com/blog/2003_11_01_archive.html) entry. I also like her December 20, 2002 (http://www.sgvy.com/blog/2002_12_01_archive.html) entry.
Speaking of Kittyhawk, check out her web comic (http://www.sgvy.com) as well! It's "Sailor Moon" meets "Ranma 1/2" meets Norse Mythology. With a bit of Parody-ness thrown in. The first Edda is a bit...vulgar, for lack of a better term. But it gets better.
Oh, yes, and I don't blame you for wanting to destroy things. I have never liked "Little Drummer Boy."

Date: 2004-11-28 05:38 am (UTC)But unfortunately, we've been playing traditional Christmas carols at work since October 3rd. I'm so sick of hearing "We Wish You A Merry Christmas". I just want to scream. Whatever happened to Thanksgiving? That poor little holiday just gets ignored now. Let's hear it for the Turkeys!
Re: Christmas music
Date: 2004-11-30 06:19 pm (UTC)I don't really dig new Christmas music because it gets over played on "contemporary" radio stations, which are pretty much my only form of music. But apparently I'm behind on modern Christmas music, because I can't even identify those people/bands you mentioned.

Date: 2004-11-28 08:37 am (UTC)I HATE the stupid "Chestnuts roasting over an open fire" song. Everytime I hear it I freak out and want to claw the walls. Same goes for the equally stupid "thise is a list of my favorite things" song, which includes "whiskers on kittens". Who the hell thinks about whiskers on kittens?
Bah humbug to the over-commercialization of Christmas!!
Where do you live, Evadne?

Get back at the friggin' Christmas spirit
Date: 2004-11-28 05:48 pm (UTC)If y'all hate that chestnuts roasting on an open fire song, I recommend finding the Bob Rivers version "Chipmunks roasting on an open fire" and listening to it, but you have to listen to his version of the Chipmunks song first or else it doesn't make much sense (the one where Alvin keeps bitching about a hula hoop).

Date: 2004-12-05 05:41 am (UTC)Oh, heck! You can make fun of my name any time you want. Most people make fun of it the first time they meet me. Though, they probably think they're clever.
I'm glad you like my Breadboxes. I have heard of Jerry the Frog, though I don't read it. I'm actually not that deep into fandoms, and don't surf as much as I'd like.

Date: 2004-12-06 04:31 am (UTC)Anywho... since you hate Christmas so, any chance of that seriously disturbing (and yet strangely wonderful) Rudolph Breadbox making a reappearance? Or some other Christmas themed funnies? Just a passing thought I had. Thanks!

Date: 2004-12-06 04:48 am (UTC)I would love to re-post the Rudolph BBE for the holidays, but I currently can't find it anywhere. I have a bad feeling it was on the disk that corrupted when I had to have my hard drive wiped over the summer. I'm going to continue to look for it, but I don't have my hopes up. Worst come to worst, I'll make a desparate plea to the people who read this journal in hopes someone downloaded it.
*screams*
Date: 2004-12-14 09:46 pm (UTC)Our stations have been playing Christmas music since right after Halloween!!! What, do they think if they play it earlier each year, it's going to come faster?!?! *deep breaths* I have now sworn off of it for this year, and everytime my mom plays it on our cd player I pull on my head phones and blare any non-Christmas-song I can find. I even listened to every single one of my many LOTR and HP sound tracks. I can't promise what will happen to any carolers (sp?) who may come to my house this year. *branishes a wand*
Whoa mabye I wrote a little too much..*blush*
Re: *screams*
