I hate the Christmas Season.

Note that I do not hate Christmas. Christmas is great. Peace, love, joy, family, giving and getting presents, not to mention a certain religious birthday party.

It's the Christmas Season that makes me want to scream and strangle people. Why? Two words: Christmas Music.

I have never worked retail, so I suppose I can never fully comprehend the horror that is Christmas Music, but I still despise it. And for some reason, as soon as Thanksgiving is over (and I hope the Americans reading this had a good Thanksgiving), at least two of my pre-set radio stations feel the need to play nothing but Christmas Music 24 hours a day until Dec. 25th.

I have heard "Little Drummer Boy" six times already. I want to destroy things.

I have another reason for disliking Christmas Music as well. Take a look at my username. One of those words is part of my actual name. Now, guess why I hate the Christmas Season.

On a side note, here is your one chance to make fun of my name. If you mock my name in any other post between now and Christmas, I will yell viciously at you in giant CAPS OF RAGE.

Seriously, I hate the Christmas Season.

Yes, the Christmas season drives me nuts as well. Christmas music? Ugh, forget it. My dad insists on blasting it as high as the stereo will allow...fortunately, this year my niece is celebrating her first Christmas, and he can't do that when she's around. Yay!

Noel? That's a pretty name. Be glad you aren't named 'Christmas' (a la Christmas Jones from that crap James Bond movie with Denise Richards.) Or Wenceslas...hey, just trying to help! =D Suddenly I feel lucky to have an ordinary name like Megan.

Personally, I hate stores around Christmastime even more than I hate Christmas music. The crowds, the screaming children...now THAT puts me in a homicidal mood. Better to stay home and order all my stuff from Amazon.com or Ebay.

Well, I'm glad you think my name is pretty. It's a family name, so there was no escaping for me. I would feel sorry for Christmas Jones, if it weren't for the fact that I think Denise Richards was one of the worst Bond Girls ever (yes, I'm sure you can stand right next to a nuclear reactor with no protection if it's weapons grade uranium. Uh-huh.).

Amazon.com is a saving grace in the holiday season. But I'll still probably end up at the mall at least once.

Thank you. I'm sure I'll have a good Christmas because all my shopping is either done already, or going to be done on-line.

I have to tell you though. It's only a pretty name if someone else has it. It's also cute on little children.

Also, people nickname you Nelly, which is disturbing and wrong.

Dude, here it started playing the Christmas music on the radio at the beginning of November. I was looking at the radio going WTF? It's NOVEMBER. If they started playing it a week or two before christmas, I could deal with it, but no, they insist upon playing it before freaking thanksgiving. WHAT'S UP WITH THAT?

Just out of curiosity, where DID you get your name? The Edvadne part, anyway.

Why do they start the Christmas music earlier and earlier every year? To annoy me? You can only have so much Christmas music before your brain overloads and you start humming "Do They Know It's Christmas Time at All" in your sleep.

Evadne is a family name from the little known Greek branch of my family. Great-great grandmother I do believe. You would never guess I had Greek in me if you saw me though. I'm as white as white can be. I chose it because I always thought it was a pretty name, but not something I would name a child (I know what it's like to have a weird name in elementary school). So I used it on-line.

I work in retail over at Disneyland in the hotels and let me tell you, we already had our Christmas merchandise out in mid October. Everywhere I turned I could find Mickey Mouse dressed as Santa Claus. At first I thought it was kinda cute and then I realized that we hadn't even had Halloween.

Chrismas music began at least mid last week and just recently we have the "Dicken's Carolers" walking up and down the lobby singing all sorts of songs for the guests. At least they sing different songs in each set or else I would go nuts. I mean, I like Christmas music to a certain extent and then it is just too much for me.

Ugh.

I sympathize. I had people at work who liked to go around singing carols. After a while I grew so annoyed that I decided to just join in. I started to sing my favorite line from We Three Kings.

Myrrh is mine, its bitter perfume
Breathes a life of gathering gloom;
Sorrowing, sighing, bleeding, dying,
Sealed in the stone cold tomb.

For some reason everyone stopped smiling.....

Of course, I went Christmas Caroling on Halloween just to freak people out, so I really can't talk about being irritating. Anyway, good luck. I stopped listening to the radio. Best decision I made all year.

Yeah, i dislike the Christmas season also for the Christmas music. Actually, i can tolerate Trans-Siberian Orchestra Christmas music for awhile....its those songs that actually have people singing to them that get to me. Work is even more excrutiating at the moment (i work at a pizza cafe) because my Palestinian manager, who doesn't even celebrate Christmas much less even know what its really about, insists on blaring the most annoying Christmas music on the planet with the reason of, and i quote, "It will attract more white people to the restaurant because they all celebrate this holiday". *sigh*

You should explain that Christmas music only attracts people in 50s movies. These days, it's more likely to drive people away.

I'm Christmas music is making your working life more difficult. Do they play "modern" Christmas music? To my ears, those modern carols are worse than the old standards sung by people like Johnny Mathias and such. Blah, stop making up stupid Christmas songs, you new-fangled pop idols!

ABCDEFGHIJKMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ.

That is all I will say. I wouldn't have said that, but I like bad jokes, and that's one of my favorites.

There's a webcomic artist/author/whatever that I like. I was reading her blog archives, and I think you might appreicate her November 13, 2003 (http://www.sgvy.com/blog/2003_11_01_archive.html) entry. I also like her December 20, 2002 (http://www.sgvy.com/blog/2002_12_01_archive.html) entry.

Speaking of Kittyhawk, check out her web comic (http://www.sgvy.com) as well! It's "Sailor Moon" meets "Ranma 1/2" meets Norse Mythology. With a bit of Parody-ness thrown in. The first Edda is a bit...vulgar, for lack of a better term. But it gets better.

Oh, yes, and I don't blame you for wanting to destroy things. I have never liked "Little Drummer Boy."

I'll admit it, I love Christmas music-but I like the new ones that bands like PlusOne, or Nicole C. Mullen have wrote, not the traditional stuff. (Unless it's Carol of the Bells. I love Carol of the Bells.)

But unfortunately, we've been playing traditional Christmas carols at work since October 3rd. I'm so sick of hearing "We Wish You A Merry Christmas". I just want to scream. Whatever happened to Thanksgiving? That poor little holiday just gets ignored now. Let's hear it for the Turkeys!

I don't really dig new Christmas music because it gets over played on "contemporary" radio stations, which are pretty much my only form of music. But apparently I'm behind on modern Christmas music, because I can't even identify those people/bands you mentioned.

If y'all hate that chestnuts roasting on an open fire song, I recommend finding the Bob Rivers version "Chipmunks roasting on an open fire" and listening to it, but you have to listen to his version of the Chipmunks song first or else it doesn't make much sense (the one where Alvin keeps bitching about a hula hoop).

k, sorries that I haven't commented for a while, Iv'e been SO busy!!! But anywayz, OH MY GOSH the other day my mom and I went Christmas shopping, and when we were driving in the car, she turned on the radio. In just a half an hour's time we heard ten different versions of Silent Night, NOT KIDDING!! I could almost feel my ears start to bleed. Every station we turned to played a remixed version of it. So finally I turned flipped to a rock station and blared up the sound.

Our stations have been playing Christmas music since right after Halloween!!! What, do they think if they play it earlier each year, it's going to come faster?!?! *deep breaths* I have now sworn off of it for this year, and everytime my mom plays it on our cd player I pull on my head phones and blare any non-Christmas-song I can find. I even listened to every single one of my many LOTR and HP sound tracks. I can't promise what will happen to any carolers (sp?) who may come to my house this year. *branishes a wand*
