evadne_noel: A man and the cresent moon in a rowboat (Bizenghast by M. Alice Legrow)

So, I know there are Bizenghast fans who read my journal, so I just wanted to mention that volume five came out a few weeks ago. I shamefully admit that I just got my copy a few days ago, so I haven't given it a thorough going-over.

At first glance, I have to say I'm surprised at how slowly the books are coming to their climax. This isn't a bad thing, let me say, especially since book five focuses on Dinah's development following Vincent's death. The book is solid character development, but it doesn't bring the plot much further along, so if you're anxious to find out what's disturbing the Mausoleum, you'll have to wait a little longer. It does have mud wrestling, evil cults and dead fish/mp3 players, however, so that's a plus.

Also recently released was Bizenghast : The Novel, a fine novelization of Bizeghast One by Shawn Thorgersen. Also included at the end is a bonus chapter written by myself, so if you're a fan of Bizenghast and me, please check it out.

I know, worst self-pimping ever. I am totally stoked to see my fake name in print, though.

*fangirls you* Heck, I care more about reading your chapter than the novel. It's not like I don't know what happens in the story. Though it will be interesting to see how Edaniel is interpreted in prose.

Vol 5: Yeah, the plot, she is missing. But fish-mp3 makes up for it with hilarity. I was super-happy to find out today that this is not on TokyoPop's list of canceled/delayed titles.

Thanks! I was really excited to be part of it, and I hope you like my chapter!

Edaniel is a tough character for prose. It's much easier to draw random hat shifts, and a little awkward to describe them.

Bizenghast is going to be a seven book series! I'm so glad they keep adding to it so that we're able to have these slower, character developing books.

Oooh, I didn't know the novel was out. I'll have to get that next time I'm at Borders. And I'll be reading a lot more soon to kill time between classes.

Volume Five Spoilers (maybe a bit) Below...

I really enjoyed volume five. As for the plot slowdown, I'm okay with that. I find myself really attached to fictional characters and feel the need to "mourn" them a bit with the rest of the characters when they're gone. I guess that's a little weird ^^; But I actually felt very refreshed after reading it.

The novel just came out last Tuesday or Wednesday; I just got the comic so I wanted to combine them into one post.

I'm glad the fifth book was cathartic for you! It really did go through all the steps Dinah had to take to get back to a good place. I hope she can repair her relationship with her aunt in the next book.

I've been wanting to buy it, but I haven't had a chance. Artemis Fowl came out, I renewed my paid account (finally), and I recently got addicted to Metal Gear Solid after I found the first three games available for $30, so OF COURSE I had to get MGS4, which was $60. Totally worth it. Partly because the villain is the most MAGNIFICENT Bastard I have EVER seen, and partly because this is the first time I've belonged to a fandom where the creator actively encourages the slash fangirls. I'm serious. While it has it's share of subtext, some of it actually gets beyond that point. :D

(And, for once, I managed to go through the entire series without being spoiled. It's a friggin' Miracola.)

Anyway, back to my point before I started fangirling, I obviously can't comment on it, since I don't have it yet, but that last bit is awesome. Go you!

Ooh, fun. I recently borrowed Bizenghast One from the library and enjoyed it, so I might buy the rest of the series. And I'll totally buy the novelisation if it's available in England, just 'cuz. :D

I hope you can appreciate the special bundt cake joke I put in volume 5 just for you, dude. I still have the postcard you sent me from Wales posted up on my desk wall...on the front is Lockhart and the pixy birdcage and on the back is your notation: "Hmm, did I leave a bundt cake in the oven? And why do I have an empty birdcage?"

Bundt cakes are the light of my life, dude. As is Lockhart, who, as we all know, invented Shakespeare.

Hi Evadne!

Shawn here. I happened upon your mention of the novel and wanted to say thanks for getting the word out! Looks like TokyoPop's site is going through puberty or something, and it's lost some functionality. In other words, B:tN doesn't even exist in their lists. Wa wa waaaaa. :P

Anyway, best wishes with your next piece of fiction! And say hey at:
