Okay, if I’m going to keep my booklist on Amazon Wishlist, it’s going to have to be a separate list from the actual Wishlist I give out to family, because I just figured out what I’m getting for Christmas.

Amazon has a holiday filter that apparently removes from your sight everything that has been purchased by other parties. This is a brilliant idea, unless you have the short-term memory of a goldfish, like myself, and forget what is or is not on your Wishlist. When I went to check my booklist (which I had even set on low priority so my family members would know what was just mild interest and not really wanted!), I noticed that an item that I wanted was no longer there. As I had not figured out the holiday filter yet, I thought that I hadn’t added it to my list. “Oh no!” thought I, “I should add it on the off chance that I could get it for Christmas!” But when I went to add it, Amazon was all, “Idiot, stop trying to add things that are already there.” But, lo, I didn’t see it despite Amazon telling me it was there, until I started playing with filters, and thus discovered exactly what my parents were getting me for Christmas.

I am still trying to figure out if the fault lies more with me or with Amazon.

This makes me sad, because the surprise is one of the best parts about gift giving (which is why my father drives me crazy with his birthday/Christmas lists of one thing. There’s no surprise there, Dad! You know what you’re going to get! Once I bought “Waterworld” on top of his regular gift as a sort of protest, but this turned out to be a mistake as he loved it, thus making me seriously doubt his taste in films). It’s one of the reasons I love giving gifts too, because surprising people is fun (transvestite Christmas rooster candleholder!) even if it backfires once in a while (see statement on my father). I am going to have to practice being surprised now. Woe.

On the plus side, I know I’m getting Veronica Mars Season Two. Yay!
