Basically, if you compare book!Frodo and Sam with movie!Frodo and Sam, the movie versions are acting suspiciously and are obviously dishonest. Once the hobbit's behavior is cleared up, Faramir's behavior changes as well.
Although, I have to admit that the movie version threw me for a loop when I first saw it.
